Waipu Golf Club - Course Development Tournament

January 6th 2012
Waipu Golf Club held a very successful golf day on the 6th of January to raise funds for a new 17th hole. The new par 3 hole when completed will provide the trigger for other developments at this beautiful natural links course that’s located right on the coast alongside SH1 between the Northland townships of Waipu and Ruakaka.
The club is looking to create an all-weather driving range and also relaying out the course to create two distinct 9’s on each side of the clubhouse. The new 17th par 3 will play back into the prevailing southwest wind and bring the new lake that’s been created over the past 3 years into play also.
The tournament to create a finding base for this development raised over $8000 dollars and a visitor to the course who was so taken with the course and the magnificent panoramas it afforded donated $1000 towards the development costs.

A field of 123 players enjoyed brilliant weather and sublime playing conditions due the extra rainfall over the Xmas/New Year and some great scores were posted.
Local Junior Thomas Neylon posted a gross 66 playing off a 4 handicap while Whangarei Club member Karl Kitchen took out the stableford with 47 points after shooting 71 off a 10 handicap.
All players were treated to a great lunch from the clubs new catering team of Dale and Dave and all players received a prize from the fantastic prize table assembled by tournament organiser Laurie Bell.
